Dear Patrons of the Prado, What a great 2008/2009 year we had under the leadership of Kathleen Buoymaster, and thanks to Chairwoman, Elisabeth Bergan, for giving us a wonderful gala Up, Up and Away. We were able to give $64,000 to each of our beneficiaries, and considering the state of the economy, that was very good. Elisabeth has graciously agreed to chair our gala in 2009, called "Intrigue on the Orient Express." The date is July 11 at the Organ Pavilion, and it promises to be "intriguing, mysterious and fabulous." Be sure to mark your calendars and tell your friends about it. Of course we will be depending upon you to be our ambassadors, and a sellout is very possible if we talk it up now.
Betty Brayshay and her cochair, Pam Palisoul, are in charge of Special Events this year. They have secured the home of June Ash for the Holiday Party on December 21st, so be sure to come and enjoy the holiday season with your Patrons friends. June and Neal Ash hosted it last year, and we had a fabulous time singing Christmas carols and holiday songs at the piano. The food, entertainment, host and hostesses and Patrons members (almost 60 of them) enjoyed the evening so very much and we got to know each other better, which is one of the main reasons we have these great get togethers. We have an exciting board this year. There are some new members who have taken positions and we are excited to have them on board. Look for your roster coming soon and all pertinent information is in there. Contact anyone on the board if you wish to serve on a committee or you just have a question. Everyone is invited to attend gala meetings, and Elisabeth will be sending out emails regarding the various meetings, so make it a point to join in. Our goals this year are to carry forward the goals from last year and years before. And that is to raise as much money as we can to give to our beloved museums and arts organizations on the Prado, which fulfills our mission. Another goal is to get our members involved in raising money and attending the gala, purchasing a table to invite friends and associates. We want to get to know you, and we want you to know us through working on committees, establishing friendships and building camaraderie in order to reach our common goals. Without everyone's help and input, our gifts to the museums will fall short, and they urgently need our monetary support for their wonderful programs. I am inviting everyone and their spouse/significant other to my home November 9 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. for the first President's Reception. It is another chance to meet other Patrons members in a social setting. You should have gotten your invitation by now. RSVP to 8584563960. The dress is casual. I am very much looking forward to leading you, a most wonderful group of women, in the coming year. Dottie Stanley |
For individuals required to take a minimum distribution from an IRA or IRRA after age 701/2, The Pension Protection Act of 2006 has now extended for the years 2008-2009 the ability for IRA owners to make qualified charitable distributions of any amount up to $100,000 per year from traditional and rollover IRAs in 2008 without having to pay taxes on the distribution. These distributions are not taxdeductible and must be made payable directly to a qualified charity. Many individuals may not need the distribution but may be required to take it because of age. Patrons of the Prado may qualify as a charity to receive these funds. If your circumstances fit this description, and you wish to donate funds to a charity, please check with your CPA to ensure POP is an eligibility charity.

New members Linda Dealy, Dee Ammon, Madeleine Pavel, Elaine Darwin, and Vicki Eddy attended the event along with their sponsors and cosponsors. Members of the Board of Directors were also in attendance. Ron McMillan of Catering Solutions catered our wonderful lunch. Sponsors introduced their new members and told us a little bit about them. Miriam Summ
This past year, Miriam Summ worked with Gala Committee members on “Up Up and Away.” Miriam was asked to become a member of the Board and serve as Vice President of Fund Development. She brings years of marketing experience in corporate development programs and will help our Gala 2009 Chairs, Elizabeth Bergan and Anita Crider, generate support through underwriting and sponsorships. As an organization, we are committed to community service and can rightly take pride in all that has been achieved. Our work and the contributions we make through Gala fund raising can and will increase annually as we continue to build and grow the network of support we need. There is a way you may be able to help Miriam by making a phone call, sending a letter or arranging a meeting. Greater support will come from those who come to know who we are, what we do and how we serve the community. You can reach Miriam through email: miriamsumm@cox.net or phone: 619.241.2718 and talk about what you might be able to do.
