President's Letter

Hi Members,

We are at the 8th inning of our home stretch. The gala is just around the corner and we need for everyone to participate, invite friends, buy tables, the whole enchilada! Very important is donating an exciting auction item. It's all about raising money for our beloved museums and art organizations in Balboa Park. So, open your hearts and your pocketbooks to make it happen.

Included in this newsletter are the by-law changes that the by-laws committee and the board voted to approve recently. You will need to refer to your by-laws in the roster in order to match up the changes. The final step is for the membership to vote on each by-law amendment, and that will be brought forth for your vote and approval at the annual meeting in September. Please review each amendment of the by-laws so that you understand what it is you are voting upon. Also included are the changes to the standing rules. The standing rules simply require board vote and approval- no membership final approval needed. They are included so you are fully aware of the changes in the standing rules.

Our final board meeting occurred June 1. Our next meeting will be the annual meeting in September. You will be receiving an invitation to attend for yourself and a guest. It is scheduled for a Sunday toward the end of September.

We had a very nice San Diego Museum of Art vault field trip on June 8, immediately following the gala meeting. Katie McDonald spoke about the museum's growth over the last four years, and then following her presentation, we toured the museum's vaults to learn a little about donated art and storage and exhibition conditions for the art. Then we assembled in the board room for lunch. It was well attended. Thank you, Betty Brayshay, for organizing this field trip.

On a sad note, we lost two Grande Dames and Honorary Committee members recently, Ellen Revelle and Pat Butler. These two ladies were so very special and did so much for the community. Their loss is a great one to San Diego. Let's say a silent prayer for their families.

See you at the gala July 18!

Warm regards,
Dottie Stanley
President, Patrons of the Prado

In the News

There were two wonderful stories about our members and the Gala. There was one article in the La Jolla Village News (10 questions of Elisabeth Bergan and some additional commentary), and one about the Patrons in Ranch and Coast Magazine with a very lovely picture of Elisabeth Bergan and Anita Crider in Balboa Park. There was also one in a local Rancho Santa Fe newspaper featuring Ellen Zinn. Thank you members for your efforts and outreach, and to Susan Clifton for her efforts on publicity.
